It's an age-old debate that almost everyone has a strong opinion about: are you better off showering in the morning or at night?
While most of us probably make the decision about when to wash based on our schedule, it looks as if there's an important reason why you nighttime shower lovers might have it right.
And it's all down to your skin...
According to New York dermatologist Dr Samer Jaber, washing at night is important for your skin health – particularly during the spring and summer months.
Chatting to the Mail Online, he explained that your skin will likely be covered in all manner of dirt by the end of the day.
'If you're out all day and sweaty or working out you should definitely shower before going to bed,' he said.
'In the spring, you might be covered in allergens like pollen if you've been outside, so you would want to get that off your skin before going to sleep,' he added.
Previous research from Harvard University has also shown that showering at night can help you sleep, so we reckon it's a bit of a no-brainer.
That said, the expert admitted that showing is down to 'everyone's personal preference', and that washing twice a day is perfectly fine, if that's your bag – as long as you keep the water temperature down to avoid stripping moisture from your skin, and shower for no more than 10 minutes overall for the same reason.
